Meeting A-Trak

Hey Friends!

Last weekend, I had the amazing opportunity to meet A-Trak, one of the guys that inspired me to go into DJ-ing and scratching. Man, it was crazy seeing him walk into the room. I've watched countless YouTube videos of him, but seeing him in person was out of this world.

I tried my hardest not to fan girl, but when I talked to him, my voice started shaking because of how nervous I was. I gave him the perler necklace I made him, and he thought it was awesome. I asked him to sign my sunglasses and he was like "Soulja Boy Style?! HELL YEAH" Overall, it was an amazing experience meeting A-Trak, one of the humblest guys I've ever met.

Music Monday: Madeon-The City

Hello Friends!

For today's Music Monday, I am posting a song that I have absolutely been obsessed with this past week. It's an older song from one of my all time favorite producers, Madeon, WHO WAS JUST 18 WHEN HE MADE THIS. Yeah..... I love Madeon's sound. Here it is, The City by Madeon

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! Pt. 2

Hey Friends!

Yes, it's been WEEKS since my last post. Let's just say school got the best of me. Juggling three classes, working events, and just catching up with friends has made little to no time for this blog, but now I'm free from school which gives me so much more time! Now, let's catch you all up on what has happened since my last post, and let me tell you, there has been A LOT.

The Alameda County Fair was in town! I got to spend some time with my friend's that I haven't seen in a long time! These were my little babies from Drama class, and now we're all in college doing our own things. Man, time really flies

Next up, I got to see the amazing documentary, Under The Electric Sky, produced by Insomniac. This film was scored by the magical wizard of music, Kaskade. The film was very good and the music flowed with the movie so seamlessly, that I felt like I was there at EDC experiencing everything with the main characters, rather than watching the main characters from a distance. Bravo to Insomniac, Haven and Focus Features!

Following that, I was lucky enough to work a crazy event, Finger Lickin Fort Mason in SF with my amazing group, the PLUR Angels. We are a non-profit group that raises awareness for safe raving by providing a buddy if you lose your friends, first aid, and other necessities to help you have a great experience. We also pass out waters in the venue because hydration is your best friend! I had an amazing time and I bumped into so many people that night! It was great seeing everyone having fun!

Last, but not least, I TURNED 20!!! YAY FOR AWKWARD AGES!!!
Well, I am forcing myself to write more on this blog and start doing it regularly, so I'll see you all tomorrow for a new post!

Cheers!
-Simon

Where Have You Been?!

Hey friends!

Where have you been?

That's a good question. The reason I've been inactive on this blog is because Summer School started and it was just a bit more overwhelming than I intended it to be. I literally got socked in the face by al the school work and I'm constantly getting pushed back down, but I'll pull through.

This weekend was EDC! Man, was this year's a spectacle to see. MASSIVE stages and incredible artist. And unfortunately, some family matters came up and I was unable to attend. Insomniac was kind enough to set up live stream for people who have "FOMO" or Fear Or Missing Out. I sat at home watching the live stream and just imaging I was there partying it up with 140,000 people, but there's always next year.

In other news, I am going to see Bastille, Hardwell, Foster The People, Zedd, and Andy Grammer in the next couple months! I recently just bought tickets for their tours and man am I excited! Come join me!

Now that I'm getting a handle on things, post will hopefully be more frequent. *fingers crossed
See you all in tomorrow's post!

Stuck In My Head Saturdays: Silent-Paris and Simo

Hello Friends!

I haven chosen a track that is from one of my all time favorite producers and djs, PARIS AND SIMO. I had the honor of skyping with them a while back and they are super humble and all around awesome guys. They were the ones that inspired me to look into the Discovery Project because they themselves were winner of the Discovery Project in 2012.

They have created this amazing track titled, Silent. It hasn't been released yet, but you can hear the preview in the video below.  It was recently featured on Hardwell's radio show, "Hardwell On Air" and I knew it's going to be a hit. Check it out!

Silent comes out in TWO days!

Foodie Fridays: Shin-Sen-Gumi

Good Afternoon Friends!

So I have trekked all the way down to Los Angeles for UCLA's Anderson School Of Management's graduation! While down here, we hit up one of my favorite ramen spots, Shin-Sen-Gumi.

Shin-Sen-Gumi is a MUST among my friends when we head down here. When you get there, you will always have a wait. Don't let this deter you. The lines usually move pretty fast and trust me, this is worth the wait. Everything is freshly prepared and your bowl of ramen is fully customizable. You select your broth, how much oil is in it, how well you want your ramen cooked, and all the toppings.

My go-to ramen is usually normal base, less oil, harder noodles topped with green onions, corn, eggs and fried garlic and onion chips on top.

Shin-Sen-Gumi has many locations in Los Angeles, Gardena, Fountain Valley, Roasemead, and in Monterey Park.

The location I went to:
18315 Brookhurst St. #1,
Fountain Valley, CA 92708

Discovery Project: EDC Las Vegas 2014

What's up friends!

I recently entered a competition to have my stage design built for Electric Daisy Carnival: Las Vegas 2014. This was through the amazing program started by Insomniac and Motorola to bring creative opportunities to music fans through the Discovery Project. The Discovery Project fosters creativity and self expression.

If you are unfamiliar with the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), EDC is an electronic dance music festival that is put on by the company, Insomniac Events. The festival starts at 7pm and ends at 5:30am. Yes, you party and dance and sing through the night. Check out the video below to take a glimpse of what EDC has to offer.

I based my design off the concept of "Dusk Til Dawn", which is a central theme for the Electric Daisy
Carnival.  A giant clock face with exposed gears towers over the DJ booth and sun dial arms help frame the stage. The compass at the bottom represents the traveling people did to get to EDC, and the inscription "1993" represents the founding of Insomniac Events.

Unfortunately, I did not win, but I learned a lot about concert design and visual effects. Designing these types of stages are hard, especially when you have to be cost effective and have very strict restriction and regulations.

Here is a some screen capture of the submission:

Thank You Insomniac and Moto X for opening up the Thanks for reading friends!
